This historic site is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a peaceful spot for reflection and a perfect photo opportunity.
Equally close is the picturesque Plateia, the village’s vibrant central square. Lined with charming tavernas, cafes, and traditional shops, it is the ideal place to experience local culture, savour traditional flavours, and immerse yourself in the warm hospitality of Pilio.
From our hotel, you can effortlessly explore these landmarks and enjoy the authentic beauty of Portaria.
Housed in Tsopotou Mansion, the first building of Pelion in Egyptian style, in the heart of Portaria, was completely renovated with luxury and respect for the history of the site. It frames, along with three other wonderful complexes, the fountain of Papadiamantis, where Cosmokalogeros inspired his work “Fonissa”.
The Papadiamandis Fountain, a fine example of traditional Pelioritic architecture, is built entirely of stone, blending practicality with aesthetic charm. Historically, it has been used for water supply and offering refreshments to passersby, and the Fountain embodies the traditions and daily life of the village. Once a central gathering point, it remains a timeless link to the community’s rich cultural heritage.
The Fountain carries a literary and historical significance and is deeply connected to the legacy of Alexandros Papadiamantis. Renowned for capturing the traditions and ethos of rural Greece, his association adds a unique cultural depth to this landmark.
The Centaur Trail is a circular route just outside the village of Portaria. This delightful walk, lasting only 30-40 minutes, is perfect for families with children or less experienced hikers looking to enjoy the area’s natural beauty.
The path is steeped in mythology, drawing inspiration from the legendary Centaurs, half-human, half-horse creatures believed to have originated in Thessaly. The trail’s enchanting natural scenery, with its lush greenery and serene atmosphere, evokes a sense of mystery that perfectly aligns with the myth.
Local scouts carefully mapped and paved the route, with added features such as bridges and stone steps to ensure a comfortable hike.
Along the way, you’ll find a drinking water fountain accompanied by the gentle sounds of small waterfalls and streams fed by the Mana Spring, creating a truly magical experience.

The Arhontiko is a beautifully renovated mansion that stands as a testament to the rich history of Portaria. Initially built in the 19th century, this historic building has been thoughtfully restored to preserve its timeless charm, a commitment in which we take great pride. The entrance is an emblematic feature of the mansion, where the luxurious marble floors lead to a magnificent wooden staircase, which gracefully ascends to the upper floors. The spacious, thematic rooms are a perfect blend of old-world elegance, with heavy curtains and vintage-style decorations that evoke a sense of nostalgia. In contrast, the bathrooms are a striking example of modern design, offering a level of comfort and sophistication we proudly boast about. The lobbies, too, reflect the grandeur of the mansion’s heritage, with their classic decor paying tribute to the building’s historical significance.
